Situation display via drones

The project Situation Report Using Drones is testing new audio-visual transmission possibilities for an on-site application scenario.

Rapid action is required in the event of crises and disasters. Previously, in Darmstadt, the emergency services assessed the situation on the ground and transmitted it as a radio message only in words.

The project Situation Report Using Drones is testing new audio-visual transmission possibilities for an on-site application scenario. Aerial reconnaissance using drones enables a more reliable and objective assessment of the situation in a considerably shorter time. They transmit images, videos and speech to the control centre, the field staff and the on-site operations management in order to be optimally prepared for any possible deployment.

The drone is primarily intended to assist the Darmstadt fire brigade in exploring restricted areas, large areas such as forests, or buildings or areas that are difficult to access. It can also be used to locate people in the event of major events such as accidents, fires, floods, earthquakes or searching for missing persons. But the drone is not only useful from the point of view of the fire brigade during the operation. It can also be used for follow-up checks in large areas of application, such as fires. Smart City partner DJI provided the test drone so that the four representatives of the Darmstadt professional fire brigade and the ten members of the Eberstadt volunteer fire brigade could work with it.
