Free mobile internet access in Darmstadt is enjoying high user numbers. ENTEGA, HEAG mobilo, Darmstadt Marketing, and Digitalstadt Darmstadt offer “WiFi Darmstadt” throughout the city center, the districts, at the main train station, and on buses and trains. It can be used free of charge and with unlimited speeds of 10 MB/s via smartphone, laptop, and tablet.
“The success of the city’s Wi-Fi network is also a confirmation of our strategy to invest in the expansion of our fiber optic network. Because the importance of fast internet—whether mobile or at home—will continue to grow,” says Dr. Marie-Luise Wolff, Chair of the ENTEGA Board of Directors.
Mobile internet access is provided via a modern fiber optic network and 280 hotspots. The cooperation partners currently have over 186,000 users per month (compared to 90,000 users per month in 2020). Projected for the entire year of 2023, this figure will exceed 2,350,000 users and a total of over 17,800,000 hits. Darmstadt compares favorably with other cities. The state capitals of Munich and Stuttgart, for example, have only 24 and 35 hotspots, respectively.
