“The Poetry of Data” – Sculptures and installations in the Stadtkirche

Two very different positions can be seen in the art exhibition as part of the art event series “The Poetry of Data” by the Darmstadt cultural platform Kultur-einer-Digitalstadt e.V. in the Evangelical City Church of Darmstadt.

Back to the overview

Darmstadt sculptor Georg-Friedrich Wolf has installed steel “memory sticks” in the city church under the theme “Ode to Eternity.” Another large sculpture, “Fingerprint,” stands near the city church on Ludwig-Metzger-Platz. They depict the immaterial, highly ephemeral “data” as three-dimensional works in steel. The sculptor thus draws attention to the transience of information and abstracts it through objectification. As a counterpoint, the media installation of a mind-reading AI horse, “Smart Hans,” by Munich artist Max Haarich, serves as a media installation. It is the digital reincarnation of the horse Clever Hans, who astonished people at fairs over 100 years ago by feigning superhuman cognitive feats, such as mind-reading.
The exhibition is open until June 16, 2024. Admission is free.

Poetry of Data goes straight to the heart of the city and addresses diverse target groups of the science and digital city in public spaces. The project connects far-reaching aspects of the digital with art and people. Poetry of Data aims to open doors to a world in which data can serve not only as a means of surveillance and organization, but as a source of inspiration and creation.

AlgorithmicYou by the artist group DensityDesign Another exhibition on the topic of AlgorithmicYou by the artist group DensityDesign of the Politecnico Milano University is on view all day until June 23rd in the rooms of the University and State Library of Darmstadt.
